Corgi & Pembroke Welsh Corgi, the breed is divided into two main categories: the Pembroke Welsh Corgi and the Cardigan Welsh Corgi.
- The Pembroke Welsh Corgi has a double coat and common coat colors include red, fuchsia, light fawn, black and tan. Its head is similar in shape to a fox's, with erect and slightly rounded ears. The torso is medium-length with a horizontal back and a broad, deep chest. Both the fore and hind limbs are relatively short, and the feet are oval with firm pads. It is worth noting that its tail is usually cropped short, and some are born with short tails.
- The coat color of the Cardigan Welsh Corgi, on the other hand, includes various shades of red, sable, brindle, black, and blue-gray. It may have white markings on its legs, chest, neck, muzzle, underparts, face and tail tip. Compared to the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, the Cardigan Welsh Corgi has larger and protruding ears and a long and low-positioned tail that almost touches the ground.
The Corgi is native to England. In 1933, Mrs. Lewis Roesler, an American dog lover, brought this lovely breed back to the United States. By 1934, the two breeds of Corgi were officially recognized as separate dog breeds. That same year, the Pembroke Welsh Corgi was recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC). And the Cardigan Welsh Corgi was recognized by the AKC in 1935.
Known for their excellent herding and guarding abilities, Corgis are also popular as play and companion dogs. They are strong, muscular and fast runners. They are intelligent, lively, spirited, alert and resourceful, with a steady temperament and a love of pampering. But nowadays they are more often kept as family pets.
